There are many different types of pollution that have different effects on people. Some of them are:

  • Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) is one of the most common types of pollution. It is colorless and suffocating.
  • Nitrogen Dioxide + nitric oxide = NO2. It is reddish brown.
  • Ozone is a poisonous gas with a sharp and cold odor.
  • Carbon monoxide is an extremely toxic type of pollution.
SO2 and NO2 can combine in the atmosphere to make acid rain, which affects animals on land and sea. Sulfur emissions can kill many trees at once and acid rain can destroy leaves and infiltrate soil.
